The Artist
Sheana Firth holds a Bachelors Degree in Sociology with a minor in Psychology and has been creating custom works of art through graphic design for the last seven years. Breakaway Graphics was launched in Middle Tennessee when a gut feeling brought the Designer here in June of 2009. Since the move, Breakaway Graphics has become an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau, a member of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and joined the ranks of the few by being awarded Bronze in the Summit International Awards for Design.
“I always strive to do better, work harder, learn more, and to think outside of the box with each new project that comes my way. I feel that every project deserves my very best and, in order to achieve this, I view each new project as an opportunity to expand my knowledge of design, not just a paycheck. I am continuously growing and maturing as a designer, never shying away from tough challenges. Let my imagination and your business grow together by contacting Breakaway Graphics today for your free quote.” – Sheana Firth, Breakaway Graphics

My Favorite Rants:
1. 15 Signs You’re a Bad Graphic Designer by Jacob Cass
2. Please design a logo for me. With pie charts. For free. By 24b/6™
3. Why professional logo design does not cost $5. By Jacob Cass
4. Photography Tips. By 24b/6™
5. Graphic Designer vs. Client (graphic language…not for office viewing)
6. John Stossel 20/20 – on graphic design
8. Yeah, that’s not what I wanted at all. BY 24b/6™
My Favorite Websites for Designers (also in no particular order):
1. Just Creative Design : This guy (Jacob Cass) is very young but has an incredible amount of talent. I love that he is not afraid to speak his mind and has the portfolio to back it up. His site is a great resource for all designers.
2. Logo Lounge & Logo Pond: I often visit these sites to get inspired and keep up on the ever-evolving trends in logo design.
3. Lynda: This site is a MUST for all designers out there. Even if you think you’ve done it all, chances are you haven’t. The membership fee is a small price to pay for the amount of information at your fingertips.
4. DaFont & iStock Photo: I think these sites sort of speak for themselves. If you don’t know why you would need them as a designer, you might want to rethink your career choice. REVISION: iStockPhoto has become too big for it’s britches, charging up to $40 per photo! I’ve switched to Fotolia since they have many of the same contributing photographers and haven’t gotten big heads about it.
5. MediaFire & YouSendIt: I personally prefer MediaFire but both sites will allow you to send large files not usually permitted to be sent via regular email. This is an awesome tool since sitting around waiting for large files to transfer can be a huge waste of time. And time is everything to the freelance designer.
6. Lorem Ipsum Generator: Super fast and easy to use if you don’t want to spend a ton of time writing space-saver copy.
7. AIGA: This site is hands down one of THE MOST IMPORTANT sites for Freelance Graphic Designers.
My Favorite Logos (in no particular order):
1. WWF Logo: Designed by Sir Peter Scott, in 1961. I love this logo for it’s simplicity and effectiveness.

2. Food Writers Logo: designed in 2005 by 300million. A spoon as the inside pen nib…how clever!

3. The Bahamas Logo: Designed by Duffy & Partners. I simply LOVE this logo, it conveys so much about the Bahamian life style and yet is pretty, simple and effective.

4. The Philanthropy Project Logo: I’m not sure who designed this but whomever it was did a fantastic job! They managed to define philanthropy in a single image.
